Amidst Wall St. Volatility, Main St. Regional and Community Banks Doing Well

Chief Investment Officer John Fox recently attended the KBW Winter Financial Services Symposium. Some key takeaways included: regional and community banks have reported fine earnings; credit quality is very good; loan growth remains relatively strong; and customers are in better shape than 2006-07 with less leverage and more cash. Most significant, bank managers of these regional and community banks see the recent market volatility as more of a Wall St. event − Main St. is doing well.
